TRING TRING…GETTING A PHONE CONNECTION IN SINGAPORE:-

Pre-paid
You land at the Changi Airport, you are eager to inform your loved ones that you have arrived safely and then – You realise you are on INTERNATIONAL ROAMING!

Worry Not! Because getting a pre-paid hand-phone (Yes! mobile phones are called hand-phones in Singapore) connection in Singapore is easy-peasy.

Once you are near the Changi Airport departure gates, you will find booths set up by money-changers and cellular companies.

You can buy any service-provider’s sim card, because usually the terms & conditions, signal strength, rates are pretty much at par.

For a pre-paid connection, you will need:

  • Passport
  •  Cash

And that’s it! You insert the Sim-card in your phone and BINGO – your phone is ready to use.

There are special IDD codes that will enable cheap calling to your home country; so don’t forget to ask your service providers about these codes.

Post-paid
The documents usually required to get a post-paid connection for foreigners are:-

  • Passport
  • Employment Pass / Work Permit / Social Visit Pass (Tourist visa) / Dependent Pass
  • House - Rental agreement

Post-paid phones will let you have the latest IphoneX or Samsung Galaxy X or BlahBlahX as they are included in the contract. However, post-paid connections are usually for a contract duration of 2 years and there are hefty fees should you want to opt out earlier.
